Cycling to school in Cardiff

PARENTAL fears are being blamed for figures showing just 4% of children cycle to school, even though half of all pupils would like to.

Sustrans is starting Bike It schemes in 12 Cardiff schools, not all of which have safe routes.

“We’re working with Ninian Park School,” said Ms Lorimer. “The approaches are pretty difficult – heavy traffic and narrow roads with parked cars.”

Environment Minister Jane Davidson said the Bike It pilot showed
a little encouragement could change travel patterns.

Ah, yes, ‘encouragement’. Marketing strategies - not getting rid of those parked cars and providing a safe, segregrated cycling infrastructure.
